FAQ

The pushback,
answered.

The strongest arguments for keeping Day, and our honest answers. Tap a question.

He won a national title in 2024. Why fire him?

Because that title came the one season he handed play-calling to Chip Kelly. Every other season since 2019 has ended with the same kind of loss. Source ↗ (opens in a new tab)

He's 85–15 since 2019. Isn't this an overreaction?

That record is excellent against most of the schedule. But seven of those 15 losses came after Ohio State had the lead, and they pile up in the games that decide championships: Michigan, the Big Ten title game and the playoff.

Isn't this just angry fans?

We are angry. That's exactly why everything here is sourced. Check any number on the Sources page.

If Day is the problem, why fire the staff?

Day hired them, and they've been on the field for these losses. If the administration keeps Day, changing the coordinators and line coach is the minimum.

Can Ohio State afford the buyout?

The $80.5 million buyout is a maximum, reduced if Day is hired elsewhere. Ohio State athletics brought in a record $336.1 million in FY25. Source ↗ (opens in a new tab)

Won't a coaching change set the program back?

It's a real risk, and we won't pretend otherwise. Running back the same structure after the same result is a risk too.

Does a letter actually do anything?

One letter doesn't. Thousands of short, polite, personal letters to the people who decide do. That's why ours takes two minutes and asks you to add a line in your own words.
